SHAPES, SIZES AND FITTINGS.
Each lamp base or light fitting is different in shape, style and size; sometimes making it tricky to pick the right lampshade.
Generally, the width of the lampshade should roughly equal the total lamp base height, and the height of the lampshade should roughly equal two thirds of the lamp base height.
All Loving String lampshades will fit onto any UK or EU lamp or light fitting, this includes BC and ES sizes.
Each lampshade will be supplied with a ‘Converter Ring’ to allow use on both BC and ES size light fittings.
The sketches below show the general shape, and some frames are available with varying interior fittings.
All sizes are shown in inches - Top diameter x Bottom diameter x Height.

CLIP.
Cute and tiny, these clip on lampshades simply slot on top of a candle-shape bulb, and are available in two sizes.
• Tiny Candle Clip - 3 x 5 x 4.5”
• Empire Candle Clip - 3.5 x 6.5 x 4.75”
Ideal for opulent wall lights, jazzing up a chandelier, or popping on a petite table lamp.
EMPIRE.
With smart and angular edges, the traditional empire shape frame comes in two different sizes:
• Diddy Empire - 4 x 8 x 6”
• Tall Empire - 7 x 12 x 9” (available with a fixed gimbal or top pendant fitting)
Cosy up a corner with a little table lamp and top with an empire shade, or for a super chic look match with a tall skinny floor lamp.
TAPERED.
A taller and more elegant construction, the tapered shape will complement any style of base or light fitting.
• Little Tapered - 4 x 6 x 6”
• Tall Tapered - 8 x 10 x 10” (duplex ring fitting – requires Shade Carrier or Spider Converter)
Try the Little Tapered on a traditional arm wall light, or pop the Tall Tapered on a fabulously wide base to create a statement.
FRENCH DRUM.
The popular and traditional French Drum has gently sloping sides, giving it a classic feel.
• Small French Drum - 7 x 10 x 7” (available as fixed gimbal or top pendant fitting)
• Medium French Drum - 9 x 14 x 9” (duplex ring fitting – requires Shade Carrier or Spider Converter)
• Large French Drum - 10 x 16 x 10” (duplex ring fitting – requires Shade Carrier or Spider Converter)
The Small size is perfect for an average size table lamp, or if your base is a little more sizeable, try the Medium or Large.
For pendant lights, the room size is a great indicator for which frame will be best suited.
CYLINDER DRUM.
The bigger the better. The Cylinder Drum has straight sides for a contemporary and charming look.
• XL Cylinder Drum - 20” top/bottom diameter x 12” height
Best hung from a high ceiling or placed in a roomy living area, this frame can be playful and dramatic. Use it as a pendant lampshade, or flip it upside down and pop it on a standard lamp.
This frame has a fixed gimble fitting and doesn’t require any additional fittings.
FITTINGS.
Medium and Large French Drums, and Tall Tapered lampshades have an inbuilt ‘Duplex Ring’ fitting inside, and depending on your light fitting, you will need to purchase either a Shade Carrier or Spider Converter.
FOR A LARGE LAMP
If your lampshade is for a larger table or floor lamp, you will need a Shade Carrier (5”).
This attaches to the lamp base, and the lampshade is simply placed to sit on top.
FOR A PENDANT LIGHT
If your lampshade is for a pendant light, you will need a Spider Converter.
This attaches to the bulb holder on the hanging ceiling flex, and is secured with the threaded ring. The lampshade is then placed to sit on the three angled prongs.
You will not need any additional fittings for the clip on, ‘Little’ tapered, small size or XL lampshades.
All lampshades are supplied with a ‘Converter Ring’ which will allow the lampshade to fit both BC and ES light fittings.
